I used to be a river
Now there’s only dirt
My gurgling course was life then
Now I die of thirst
I hurtled across desert lands
Painting a blooming landscape
Barren lies my bed now
Not a thorn forth to spring
I bred a billion children
Feeding them the milk of life
Wounded they leave my womb now
Not a saviour among
I cried with every concrete block
They built upon my fertile soul
I drank the poison of human greed
As they dammed me from my spawns
I used to be a river
Now there’s only dirt
I kissed the kiss of life then
Now even death dances too far
